Once upon a time there was a teacher called Margot. She came from Consdorf – that’s in the very east of the country, in the middle of the “Müllerthal” – and also taught in the kindergarten there. “Joffer Margot” was a very nature-loving person who was always keen to get children excited about nature. That is why she was often out and about on the paths in her home community. In order to honour the commitment of this teacher and to bring future generations closer to nature, a nature trail was created a few years after her death. Here you can learn on various display boards which animals live in the pond, what a dry stone wall is, which animals live in the beech forest, in the forest stream, in the pond and in the hedges.

But you also learn why meadows and dead wood are important for the ecosystem and what a “mardelle” is: namely a hole in the forest floor where water has collected and from which clay was often taken in the past to make pots and plates. An owl shows the way on the nature trail “Joffer Margot”. It is 6.7 kilometres long in total, but there are also shortcuts. As we are walking in the Müllerthal, i.e. in a rocky area, it is sometimes quite steep uphill. There are also some steep stairs on the way, so sturdy shoes are important.
