On September 4th and 5th, the Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall together with the Minette UNESCO Biosphere will organise the first edition of the Geoheritage Days in Luxembourg. Here, the unique geological heritage of Luxembourg can be discovered. On September 4th, from 9.30am to 12pm, a hike to the Wollefsschlucht geotope in Echternach and from 2pm to 5pm a hike to the Geotope of the Year, the Champignon in Nommern are on the programme.

Both walks will be led by geographer Birgit Kausch, who will be able to give very interesting explanations. On September 5th you can choose between two hikes. From 09.30am to 12pm, a hike to the Giele Botter nature reserve is planned with the geologist and palaeontologist from the Naturmusée, Robert Weis.

From 10am to 12.30pm, a hike is planned to the Huttbierg in Rumelange with Dr Ben Thuy from the Naturmusée. This hike will be available in English and Luxembourgish. Then, from 2pm to 4.30pm, an excursion to the quarry of the Cimalux company is planned with Professor Bernard Lathuilière from the University of Nancy. This excursion is offered in French and here Minette coral reefs are analysed, which date back to the Jurassic period.

  • On September 4th in the Müllertal (Echternach/Nommern) and on September 5th in the Minette (Niederkorn/Rumelange).
