The slate museum in Martelange really kicks off the summer season on the first weekend in July. From then on, it will be open on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On 27 June, the “Frënn vun der Lee” are organising a special programme. Reservations are compulsory for participation. Admission to the grounds is free and information on the various buildings is available. In addition, visitors can discover the grounds using I-Beacons, a way of exploring the museum area digitally and analogue. However, there is a charge for entry to the facilities.

Numerous workshops and guided tours also take place in the museum, explaining the world of slate and slate workers in a fun way for young and old. Here are the workshops and guided tours taking place between 19 July and 12 September 2021. On Tuesdays there is always the “Schuppi’s Family Tour” between 14.30 and 16.30 – “Schuppi” is the mascot of the Slate Museum. On Wednesdays there is the “Schuppi’s Family Day” (lunch included) from 10.00 to 15.00; from 15.00 to 17.30 there is a guided tour. On Thursdays, the Dots.Schiefer workshop will take place from 14.00 to 16.30. On Fridays it’s “Schuppi’s Family Tour” again from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 14.30 to 16.30 airbrushing in the slate museum. Saturday is “Schuppi’s Family Tour” from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 14.30 to 16.30 and at 15.30 and 17.00 a 30-minute tour of the mine. On Sundays, a guided tour of the museum is scheduled from 15.00 to 17.30 and a tour of the mine (approx. 30 minutes) at 11.00, 15.30 and 17.00 respectively.

  • Entrance fees: 10 euros for adults. 8 euros for senior citizens over 65 and for students (with student card), 6 euros for young people between 12 and 18 and 4 euros for children from 4 to 12. A guide for group visits costs an additional 75 euros.
  • Workshops and guided tours must be booked at least 24 hours in advance, places are limited. Prices vary depending on the workshop. However, the Slate Museum can also organise individual tours, workshops and other events, such as children’s birthday parties, on request.
  • Sturdy shoes and a warm jacket are recommended, especially when going down into the mine, which is up to 15 metres below the surface. The temperature here is a constant 9 degrees Celsius all year round.
